The First Five Years of Fikrah HR – What I’ve Learned About Building a Business With Purpose

Introduction In February 2026, Fikrah HR celebrated five years. Five years of building something that, when I started it in 2021, felt both enormously clear in purpose and genuinely uncertain in execution. I had nearly three decades of HR experience across the UK and GCC. I had seen large corporate HR done well and […]

AI in HR – What UAE SMEs Should Actually Be Doing Right Now

Introduction Barely a week goes by without a headline about AI transforming the HR profession. And it is transforming it — that much is not hype. But the conversation that most UAE SME founders actually need is not “will AI replace HR?” It’s “where can AI help us right now, what do we need to […]

Emiratisation in 2026, What UAE SMEs Actually Need to Know

Introduction Emiratisation is no longer a large-corporate compliance exercise. As of 2026, it directly affects businesses with as few as 20 employees, and the financial consequences of non-compliance are significant. Yet in my conversations with UAE SME founders and operations managers, Emiratisation is still frequently misunderstood, either treated as a box to tick or, […]

Fractional, Interim, or Project-Based HR, Which Model Is Right for Your Business?

Introduction One of the questions I’m asked most often, especially by founders scaling from 20 to 100 employees, is: “How do we get proper HR support without hiring a full-time HR director?” The good news is that the HR profession has evolved to offer several models that sit between “no HR” and “a permanent hire […]

Balancing Preparation and Panic, HR’s Role When Crisis Hits

Introduction The extraordinary weather events that struck the UAE in March & April 2024, and the leadership responses that followed, reminded every business owner in this country of something that had always been true but rarely tested: being an employer comes with a legal and ethical duty of care, even when the world outside your […]

Cultural Intelligence as a Leadership Superpower in the UAE

Introduction In a country where more than 85% of the private sector workforce is made up of expatriates from across the globe, cultural intelligence is not optional leadership development. It is the core capability that determines whether a leader can actually lead. Yet in my work with businesses across the UAE, I see cultural […]

Working in Dubai, Expectations vs. Reality

Introduction Every week, I speak to professionals who are either preparing to relocate to Dubai, or who arrived a year ago and are still adjusting to a reality that looked very different in the job offer email. Working in the UAE is genuinely extraordinary, the opportunity, the pace, the ambition, the diversity. But it […]

UAE End-of-Service Benefits Demystified, What Every Employee and Employer Needs to Know

Introduction Few topics generate more confusion, and more disputes, in UAE workplaces than end-of-service gratuity. Employees often don’t know what they’re entitled to. Employers often miscalculate it. And both parties sometimes discover the gap only at the moment of exit, when the working relationship has already ended. Let’s fix that. What Is End-of-Service Gratuity? End-of-service […]

Are You Legally Exposed? The Everyday HR Compliance Risks UAE Business Owners Can’t Afford to Ignore

Introduction One of the most common conversations I have with UAE business owners starts like this: “We’ve been operating for three years and nothing has gone wrong yet.” That is not a compliance strategy. That is luck, and luck runs out. The UAE’s employment law landscape has evolved significantly in recent years, and […]

HR With a Heart, What It Really Means to Put People First in Business

Introduction “Human Resources with a Heart” isn’t a tagline I came up with in a branding session. It’s a belief I’ve held for nearly three decades of working in HR across the UK and GCC, that how you treat your people is not separate from business performance. It is business performance. Too often, […]

The Story Behind “Pay As You Go HR”, And Why It Changed Everything

Introduction When I founded Fikrah HR in 2021, I was driven by one very clear frustration: brilliant, hard-working businesses in the UAE were making costly people decisions, not because their founders lacked intelligence or ambition, but because professional HR support was primarily structured around large consultancy based providers that are generally out of most’s […]
